The river, a tributary of the Medway, is mostly swift flowing over gravel, with streamy sections alternating with deeper pools. Good summer flows are maintained by water discharged from Bewl Water. The Association controls more than seven miles of the river, in Kentish countryside, between Goudhurst, Marden and Collier Street. The Association also maintains a well stocked reservoir at Marden Beech. The fishing season is from 3rd April to 31st October inclusive.
The Association is a fly fishing club which is non-profit making and has been in existence since the end of World War 2. Membership is strictly controlled to ensure that there is no over-crowding.
The Association has a team of bailiffs who regularly patrol the banks and assist members.
Constant improvements are made to the fishery and members are encouraged to help with stocking, bank clearing etc. There is a members' guest permit facility and a number of social events organised.
